Professional Counselor Associate, ATR-BC, CADC-I
Ariel Anderson
I am passionate about helping folks struggling to heal from traumatic experiences and walking alongside those on their journey of recovery. I want to help adolescents and adults develop resilience through flexibility, gain clarity on what value-driven living looks like, and overcome barriers for achieving that life.
The more skills we add to our metaphorical toolbox, the more options we’ll have for dealing with life’s surprises. Similarly, if we keep ourselves open to the many potential paths forward in life, we’re more likely to choose a path in line with our values that leads closer to our desired goals—even when we face troubles! I want to help you build the skills for experiencing life in a way you feel is truly worth living.
I utilize a trauma-informed approach to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). When addressing addiction and/or safety concerns, I incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to promote the development of dialectical abstinence—a method for balancing abstinence with harm reduction—and distress tolerance.
In sessions, I believe that embracing our mutual humanness allows for building authentic and boundaried healing bonds. As an art therapist, I also believe that experiential learning through the art making process can help stimulate creative problem solving, self soothing, thought exploration, emotional regulation, processing, and expression through somatic processing, healthy communication, and reflective distance.
